FOLLICLE TRANSPLANTATION - OTHER ISSUES
Is the procedure painful?
The only time when the patient feels anything is during the administration of
local anesthetic. While the local anesthetic is administered without needles,
a high pressure injector is used instead. The anesthetic will be administered
about 15 times over the donor area. The patient would feel like being flicked
by someone with a finger each time the local anesthetic is administered. The
same would apply to the recipient area. It can hardly be described or
labeled as pain. The patient would not feel anything throughout the rest of
the procedure.
The local anesthetic will wear off several hours after the procedure. After
that, the patient will regain full sensitivity of the scalp. The patient may
feel a certain tenderness on the donor area and the grafts site. While pain
relievers are provided to the patients after the procedure, very rarely does a
patient report so much pain after the surgery that justifies the use of pain
relievers.
Pain should not be a concern for patients. On the contrary, patients should
prepare themselves for a certain restlessness and discomfort while lying on
the stomach for several hours when the donor hairs are being extracted. Gho
Clinic is currently designing new equipment that will alleviate the
discomfort.
What kind of candidates are best
suitable for Follicle Transplantation?
Considerations will be given on
an individual basis during a personal consultation with Dr. Gho. In general,
Follicle Transplantation is suitable for most men or women suffering from
androgenetic alopecia. It is ideal for patients who want to restore a
partially thinning hairline, preempt areas that are starting to thin as well
as to touch up previous hair transplant work. The procedure is not
suitable for individuals who are aggressively pursuing a lower hairline than
is appropriate for his or her age nor for individuals who desire a density
like that of a teenager's.
Can patients schedule consecutive sessions?
Yes. Consecutive sessions can be
scheduled provided that the consecutive procedure is performed on a different
part of the balding area. Overseas
patients can have two Follicle Transplantation sessions in one trip.
What can one expect during the
consultation?
The patient will meet Dr. Gho
during the consultation. Dr. Gho will examine the patient's condition and
discuss possible alternatives to surgery. If the patient decides to proceed
with Follicle Transplantation, Dr. Gho will then design with the patient the
area that is to be treated, the number of grafts to use, the types of grafts,
as well the angle and placement of grafts.
What is the cost for one session
of Follicle Transplantation?
The basic cost of one Follicle
Transplantation session is Eur 2,250 which covers at least 250 grafts.
However, Gho Clinic strives to transplant an average of 300 - 400 grafts in
most patients. An
overseas package can be arranged for the patient at an additional cost of Eur
750. The overseas package is usually for will cover the following:
Hotel accommodation for 2-3 nights.
Ground transportation throughout the trip.
Breakfast and dinner.
Topical anti-biotic.
Oral anti-biotic.
Maastricht information package.
Starting from January 1,
2003, the price structure will be as follows:
The price for the overseas package will decrease to Eur700.
The price for one Follicle Transplantation session will increase to Eur2,300 due to increase in the price of medication effective January 1, 2003.
